So. You’ve heard ‘Kindred’ flung around a few times, you know there’s a rehearsal room or two here, but the rest is all a bit hazy?

Since our humble beginnings as a few rehearsal rooms in 2005, we’ve grown to house multiple purpose-built creative spaces that you, yes you can hire out. Swing your curser up to STUDIOS and you’ll see just what these are. We’re also home to Victoria University and Victoria Polytechnic‘s music programs and many dance and music schools who run their classes out of our studios.

We don’t like to brag but we’re privately owned and operated by artists. This could be why Lonely Planet listed us in their Top Ten Workspaces in The World in 2016.

Our office is open 10am – 5pm weekdays, the front bar reception opens 5pm -12am each week day and we are open 11am-6pm on weekends. If you’d like to know more, scan our frequently asked questions below or give us a bell.

Here’s a few we frequently get

I’d like to come and have a look around Kindred Studios, who do I talk to?

Our admin team! Pop in and say hello or shoot us an email and let us know when you’re coming. Our office team are here 10am and 5pm on weekdays but if you can’t make it then, our front of house staff are here until midnight weekdays and 11am to 6pm on the weekends.

Is Kindred a not for profit or government funded organisation?

Nope. Kindred Studios is 100% privately owned and operated by artists.

We proudly offer our spaces to artists who allow us to continue to support Melbourne’s creative industries. At this stage, we do not receive any funding from arts bodies or the Government.

Can I perform at Kindred for free?

Like you, our front of house staff like to eat so we do hire our performance venues out at a cost. We’re totally open to discussing the possibility of starting a residency or displaying your work in our studios for free though. We love showcasing artist’s work. Let’s talk.

I don’t work in the creative industries, but I like the idea of working out of Kindred Studios. Can I still rent an office at Kindred or use the coworking space?

Are you a freelancer? That’s creative! We welcome entrepreneurs like you with welcome arms. If you feel our vibe, chances are we’ll feel yours. We’d love to have you.

Man, this place is so cool. Can I work for Kindred Studios?

Aw, shucks. Although we don’t happen to be hiring at the moment, we’re always looking for people to collaborate with. If you want to be a part of the Kindred Studios Kommunity, we’d suggest giving our co-working space a go or running an event here.
